How is student information stored?
Relevant student information is stored in our secure system and only visible to those who are connected to the student or have access via user permissions.
Do you provide professional development for staff?
Yes! We can provide professional development for staff on various topics focused on best practices. We work with you to determine the area(s) of need and create a tailored package that meets the school’s needs.
Do you provide training for families?
Currently, we offer caregiver training as a paid service through schools that are willing to host sessions for caregivers to attend.
What does a universal screener measure?
Universal screening can measure several areas related to student skills and success. Our partnership with Aperture and the use of the DESSA are universal screeners that measure key skills students need to foster resiliency and protective factors. The DESSA is a strengths-based measurement of a student’s social-emotional competencies. It identifies areas of social-emotional development that need instruction.
How does consent for online services work?
eLuma offers a range of mental health services that support students’ well-being. These services range from whole-class guidance lessons (tier 1) to one-on-one virtual sessions targeting the student’s specific individualized needs (tier 3). These services, including small group instruction/intervention (tier 2), can be provided for general education students and students with Section 504 plans or individual education plans.
How do you supervise students while giving them privacy during virtual assessment or counseling sessions?
Many of our customers report the most success setting up the assessment station in a room or office off a classroom or the main school office. This will allow for sightline supervision of the student while still giving them privacy to complete the session.
Does eLuma offer a SEL curriculum?
While eLuma currently does not have a curriculum, we recommend using a social-emotional learning (SEL) curriculum that adheres to CASEL standards and fulfills individual state SEL competencies.
We provide synchronous and asynchronous classroom instruction delivered by qualified professionals using their preferred SEL curriculum and offer instruction guides to aid district staff in facilitating discussions.
Can professional development or classroom guidance/SEL lessons be recorded?
Professional Development and SEL lessons may not be recorded. We want to ensure that all of our information is up-to-date and timely. Therefore, we will not allow access to record any sessions.
What assessments do you offer?
eLuma partners with major publishers, including Pearson, Riverside Insights, ProEd, WPS, and more, to deliver an assortment of industry-leading online assessments. Additionally, you are welcome to share access to any assessment materials that can be delivered virtually to the service provider working with your district/school.
What are virtual school psych assessments like?
In many ways, virtual school psych assessment looks very similar to in-person assessment. The examiner verbally presents most items to the student, while visual items are shared via screen share. For any subtests that require the student to write in a Response Book, the Response Book will be mailed to the school site before the assessment. A document camera will allow the examiner to observe the student’s work in the Response Book.
The examiner will also include the typical validity statement in the evaluation report describing the student’s attention level and engagement throughout the assessment. Breaks, rewards, and validity statements are included to maintain engagement and ensure accuracy in evaluation reports.
Is remote assessment valid?
eLuma school psychologists follow research-based recommendations for remote assessment set out by the National Association of School Psychologists and the test publishers. Similar to any in-person assessment, the school psychologist will include in their evaluation report a validity statement that reflects on the student’s engagement and participation in the testing session. School psychologists use multiple data sources, including standardized assessments, teacher and parent reports, classroom data, grades, etc., to guide eligibility determinations.
How is a facilitator used during virtual psychoeducational assessments?
The use of facilitators during standardized assessment sessions varies based on student independence. In every case, the goal will be to minimize the time another person is in the room with the student. Some students need minimal assistance, while others may require help with tasks like finding the correct start page for each subtest.
In these cases, the examiner may group all tests requiring the Response Booklet together, and then the facilitator would not be needed once those are completed. In rare cases, continuous supervision may be necessary. The examiner will document the facilitator’s presence in their evaluation report and note that it was required to complete the assessment.
What role does a contractor assigned by eLuma play in FBA/BIP/BX support?
The contractor assigned by eLuma plays a pivotal role in conducting Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs), developing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), and providing student behavioral support. They collaborate with school staff to gather data, lead the IEP team in completing FBAs, and create tailored BIPs to address identified behaviors. The contractor also establishes measurable behavioral goals, designs data collection systems for monitoring progress, and offers training and consultation to ensure effective intervention implementation.
In these cases, the examiner may group all tests requiring the Response Booklet together, and then the facilitator would not be needed once those are completed. In rare cases, continuous supervision may be necessary. The examiner will document the facilitator’s presence in their evaluation report and note that it was required to complete the assessment.
How do you monitor progress for mental health services in a virtual setting?
In a virtual setting, progress monitoring for mental health services includes collecting observational data during counseling sessions, tracking the frequency of desired behaviors, and assessing responses to role-play style questions.
Screening instruments are used periodically to gauge a student’s present level of performance. At the same time, questionnaires and data collection forms may be sent to school staff and caretakers to assess the student’s ability to generalize emotions and behaviors across settings. These methods help mental health providers understand students’ progress and tailor interventions to support their well-being.
Are you able to complete evaluations online?
Yes!
Can you case manage students?
Currently, we provide case management services only for students receiving teletherapy support from one of our Speech-Language Pathologists.
Can you bill Medicaid for online services?
Our licensed providers can bill for school-based Medicaid on behalf of the school for teletherapy services.
What makes working with eluma different from other teletherapy companies?
eLuma contracts with districts/schools for a firm commitment and time period using a long-term partnership model. In contrast, other companies contract hourly with no real long-term commitments with the school or clinician.
eLuma provides a dedicated Customer Success Partner (CSP) to support schools and contractors throughout onboarding, implementation, and the duration of the partnership. The CSP maintains regular communication, fosters strong relationships, addresses questions and concerns, and promotes the overall success of online therapy to meet the needs of students, districts, and contractors alike.

Are eLuma’s services exclusively virtual?
eLuma is devoted to providing virtual/remote services. We may be able to provide a hybrid model tailored to schools’ individual needs on a case-by-case basis.
Is online therapy compliant?
The use of telepractice does not remove any existing responsibilities in delivering services, including adherence to the various codes of ethics, scopes of practice, state and federal laws (e.g., licensure, FERPA/COPPA, etc.), and policy documents on professional practices.
Therefore, the quality of services delivered via telepractice must be consistent with the quality of services delivered face-to-face.
Do you offer live teletherapy sessions or modules?
eLuma provides live online therapy sessions conducted by licensed professionals. These interactive sessions allow students to engage directly with therapists in real time for services such as speech therapy, occupational therapy, mental health services, and school psychology. This approach differs from asynchronous therapy modules, which typically involve pre-recorded content without live interaction.
What technology is required for online therapy sessions?
Teletherapy sessions require a computer or tablet with a functioning camera and microphone and a reliable high-speed internet connection. We also recommend headphones or earbuds to help maintain privacy and make it easier to hear the therapist without distractions.
What does an online therapy session look like?
Online therapy sessions are similar to those in person. The student is logged into the therapist’s online classroom. The sessions are live with licensed and credentialed therapists, and sessions are not recordings or modules. The student will participate in activities, worksheets, games, and other tasks focusing on their goals. The student can take remote control of the mouse to fully engage and participate in the session. A therapy station kit that contains paper, pencils, glue, scissors, or any other requested materials for hands-on and online lessons can also be utilized.
Is online therapy effective?
Online therapy is backed by a large body of academic research. In fact, well over 100 studies from accredited universities and research organizations have concluded that online therapy produces similar, if not highly competitive, outcomes compared to onsite therapy. Download Research Guide
