Video Transcript

Speaker 1 (00:00):
I’m recommending that we postpone the in-person instruction. That’s part of the blended learning model until our health conditions in alignment with the decision tree metrics and in partnership with Benton Franklin County health allow us to be in person. All students in the tri-cities will start school online, come September. But Pasco school district is concerned for their at-risk student population, school board members, Steve Christianson said mental and emotional health is a concern. If students are stuck at home, but says, it’s the only responsible choice they can make right now.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
But please know that we’re doing our best. And I think right now, this is the best we can plan for.
Speaker 1 (00:39):
The district has already taken steps to address students’ emotional needs.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
With Pasco, we literally just added a school psychologist today. Mental health and mental wellness was always a thing, but COVID has made it top of mind because kids aren’t interacting with other kids as much.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
PSD is in a partnership with eLuma offering online therapy to students.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
What we’re seeing with Pasco and other districts who are going to go online is that their staff need additional training and professional development. So in addition to us providing live online services with our therapists, what we do is we consult with the district. We train staff, we help create a plan.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
He tells us they’re all committed to providing the best care whether it’s online or in-person
Speaker 2 (01:28):
We feel confident about and that I know Pasco’s administration feels confident about is that we will put kids first and that we will do everything we can to meet these kids where they are and to provide a high-quality educational experience for them.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
In Pasco, Jamison, Keefe, over for KAPP-KVEW local news.
